Makayla Whitfield is entering her first season as the head coach of the Davidson-Davie STORM volleyball program.

Whitfield brings over six years of coaching experience, working with athletes of all age groups across both club and high school levels. She has spent the past two years coaching AAU volleyball with Triad United Volleyball Club and has also coached at Southwest Guilford High School, where she helped develop players in a competitive team environment.

Elizabeth Edwards

Assistant Coach

Elizabeth Edwards is entering her first season as an assistant coach for the Davidson-Davie STORM volleyball program.

Edwards brings both collegiate playing experience and dedicated coaching expertise to the court. She has over five years of competitive coaching experience, with a strong focus on developing athletes in their primary positions, particularly specializing in DS/libero training. As a former Division II middle blocker at Winston-Salem State University, she developed a strong foundation in teamwork, discipline and mental toughness.

Most recently, Edwards served as the head coach for the JV team and as an assistant coach for the Varsity team at High Point Christian Academy. She also serves as a 16 National Assistant Coach for a local AAU volleyball club, further strengthening her club-level experience.

She brings strong court awareness to her coaching, helping players read the game in real time. She is intentional about developing athletes’ volleyball IQ and strategic understanding, equipping them to make smarter, more confident decisions on the court.

Edwards resides in Pfafftown and looks forward to becoming a proud Wolfpack mom as her daughter begins her freshman year at NC State in fall 2026.
