Davidson-Davie Bounce Back Against Yetis

By Dylan Branscome

The Davidson-Davie STORM bounce back in a Region 10 victory over the Cleveland CC Yetis, 71-56, on Wednesday night in Brinkley Gym. Davidson-Davie now improves to a 21-5 overall record and a 15-4 record in Region 10.

The STORM were led by a 27-point performance from Conall Lowry, who made 11 out of his 15 field goals, including four out of five threes. Tayvion Tangiora also had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Nijel Howard also grabbed 13 rebounds.

There wasn’t much offensively going well for both teams in the first half. Davidson-Davie shot just 38% from the field and 23% from three, and Cleveland shot just 28% from the field and 10% from three. Davidson-Davie still managed to have a seven-point lead, 29-22, by the end of the first half.

The second half proved to be more successful than the first for the STORM, significantly improving their offensive output. They outscored the Yetis 42-34, largely in part to their shooting percentage. Davidson-Davie shot 60% from the field on 28 attempts, while also shooting 42% from three on seven attempts. Cleveland shot better from the field as well at 38% on 34 attempts and 40% from three on 10 attempts, but it was not enough to close the distance on the STORM.

Davidson-Davie also out rebounded the Yetis 41-38 and secured more second chance points on less overall offensive rebounds, mostly from Tangiora and Howard with 25 rebounds between the two of them. The STORM also had more threes than Cleveland, and while they only had six, Lowry had four of them, showing for an impressive offensive night for the sophomore. Davidson-Davie also had 16 points off of turnovers compared to Cleveland’s twelve.

The STORM return to action this Friday against another Region 10 opponent in the Fayetteville Tech Trojans at 7:00 P.M. EST at Brinkley Gym.
